Review: West Elm Credit Card

Furniture and home decor store West Elm offers a credit card in partnership with Comenity Bank that allows you to earn reward points toward future West Elm purchases. Our overview / review of the West Elm credit card is below:

The West Elm credit card can only be used at West Elm stores, West Elm catalog or West Elm online. Despite being a Williams-Sonoma brand, the West Elm credit card can not be used there. (Williams-Sonoma has its own credit card.)

The West Elm card offers you two choices as far as rewards or special offers:

  • Earn 1 point per dollar charged on the card and receive a $25 West Elm gift certificate for every $250 spent, or
  • Use the card when you make any purchase over $750 and you can pay zero interest on that purchase for a full year. (BUT, note that if you don’t pay off the complete balance within the 12 months, you will be charged ALL of the interest that would’ve accrued since the date of the purchases, as if the 0% offer had never existed! And you will pay that interest at a ridiculously high 27.49% rate!)

There are also two bonuses worth mentioning:

  • You’ll get a $50 West Elm rewards card once you are approved for the card.
  • You’ll get a $25 West Elm rewards card on your birthday, provided you’ve made a West Elm purchase in the previous 24 months.

Now, as mentioned, the West Elm Credit Card has an interest rate of 27.49%, so our advice is to avoid this card if you ever carry a balance on your credit cards. Otherwise you are basically adding 25+ percent to the cost of your West Elm purchases. (However, it may make sense to carry a balance if you are using the card to take advantage of the 0% rate offer — IF you are sure you can pay off every penny within the 12-month window.)

You can apply for the West Elm credit card via this online application.
