Warehouse retailer Sam’s Club offers 4 credit cards issued by Synchrony Bank — 2 consumer cards and 2 business cards. Depending on which you get, you may be entitled to earn rewards for your purchases at Sam’s Club and elsewhere. Below we offer a short profile / review of each card:
The first thing you should understand is this: when you apply for either a Sam’s Club consumer credit card or business credit card, you will first be considered for the MasterCard and the rewards program that goes with it. If your credit is not good enough to qualify for the MasterCard, then you would be considered for the Sam’s store-only card.
Now, to look at the individual cards:
- The Sam’s Club MasterCard can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted. This card offers you cash back on all your purchases — 5% cash back on gas purchases (on up to $6000 per year of purchases at gas stations and Sam’s Club), 3% cash back on dining and travel purchases, and 1% cash back on everything else, overall a nice rewards card.
- The Sam’s Club Store Credit Card can only be used at Sam’s Club and Walmart, nowhere else. It sometimes offers special discounts or financing offers but mainly it is a way to buy on credit with no other frills attached.
- The Sam’s Club Business MasterCard is pretty much the same as the consumer Sam’s MasterCard — good anywhere MasterCard is accepted and offers the same 5% rebate on gas, 3% on dining and travel, and 1% on all other purchases.
- The Sam’s Club Business Credit Card is basically the same as the Sam’s Club store card listed above — it is only good at Sam’s and Walmart. It does gives you the option to add multiple employees onto the account depending on your business needs.
One other note: The Sam’s Clubb MasterCard credit cards will have an interest rate of either 15.15% or 23.15% depending on your credit history. If you only qualify for the store-only version of either the consumer or business Sam’s credit card, your interest rate will be 23.15%.
