Guitar and musical instrument chain Sam Ash, in partnership with Synchrony Bank, offers a credit card that allows you to finance purchases with no interest charges — but be careful! Our complete overview/review of the Sam Ash credit card is below:
The first thing to understand about the Sam Ash credit card is that it is only accepted at Sam Ash, nowhere else. In general, we are not fans of credit cards tied to a single retail chain — you take a hit to your credit score for a card with very limited usefulness. If your credit history is shaky, this is a particularly risky move.
That said, it is understandable why you would want the Sam Ash credit card. It lets you finance your purchases at a 0% interest rate — including 0% interest for 24 months on purchases of $299 or more. That’s a very nice deal. (Note that the length of the 0% interest offers vary based on current special offers, you may see different terms when you visit Sam Ash.)
However, you MUST note this: In some cases, if you do not pay off the complete balance within the promotional period, you will then be charged all of the interest that would have accrued from the date of purchase, as if the 0% offer had never existed. Other Sam Ash offers work differently; some are structured in a way that you must make equal monthly payments that would lead to the full price being paid off within the promotional period.
Bottom line: read the fine print so you understand exactly what you are getting into, especially since the regular interest rate on this card carries a 29.99% interest rate, which is incredibly high.
If you decide to use the Sam Ash credit card to finance a purchase, you can shop on the Sam Ash Web site and the option to apply for a card will be presented to you at checkout, or you can apply in a Sam Ash store.
