Women’s discount clothing retailer Metrostyle offers a credit card in partnership with Comenity Bank that allows you to earn reward points toward future Metrostyle purchases. Our overview / review of the card is below:
The first thing to know about the Metrostyle credit card is that it can only be used at Metrostyle and its sister store Chadwicks — it is not accepted anywhere else. This limited acceptance is a strike against it in our view: do you really want to open a new credit line for a card with such limited acceptance? Opening too many of these types of credit cards can hurt your credit score, especially if your credit history is shaky.
However, for some people the card could be an OK idea, especially if you always pay off your credit card bills in full each month, because it does offer some Metrostyle rewards, including:
- 5 reward points per dollar charged to the card; every time you reach 1000 points (which means you’ve charged $200 to the card), you get a $10 reward certificate good toward a future Metrostyle purchase.
- Occasional opportunities for bonus points or merchandise discounts exclusive to Metrostyle cardholders.
On the surface the rewards seem only OK, but when you consider the low prices of Metrostyle’s clothing, a $10 reward is not bad.
BUT, before you even think about getting this card, let’s look at one important fact: this card has an interest rate of 27.24%!! If you do not regularly pay off your card’s balance in full, you could pay over 25% extra for your purchases in card interest. This essentially wipes out any rewards you earn, while pushing you into deeper debt quickly. Do NOT get this card if you are not in the habit of COMPLETELY paying off your credit cards each month.
If you do always pay off your cards, and you’re a Metrostyle fan, then go for it. You can apply online for a Metrostyle credit card via this online application.
