Department store chain Gordmans, in partnership with Comenity Bank, offers a credit card that lets you finance your purchases but has little else to recommend it. Our overview / review of the Gordmans credit card is below:
There are 2 things to understand about the Gordmans credit card upfront:
- It is only accepted at Gordmans. We generally do not recommend credit cards good at a single retail chain, because you are opening a new credit line and potentially hurting your credit score for a card you can use only sparingly.
- You do NOT have to get the Gordmans credit card to be part of the gRewards program that allows you to earn points toward Gordmans reward certificates. It is possible that there may be special promotions to earn extra points with the credit card, but the credit card is not an essential part of the rewards program.
That said, what does the Gordmans credit card have to offer beyond the ability to finance your purchases over time? Not a lot. You get:
- A 10% discount on your first purchase with the card in store.
- Cardholder-only discounts & coupons in your monthly bill.
That’s it. You get a one-time 10% discount and a vague promise of future goodies. That’s not great motivation to get the card, especially when you consider the card’s interest rate: 25.24%!!!
Yes, if you carry a balance on this card, you’ll pay interest at a rate of over 25%!! If you EVER carry a balance on your credit cards, do NOT get this credit card.
As you can see, we aren’t fans of the Gordmans credit card. However, if you want one anyway, you can apply online with this application.
