Review: Carnival Cruises Credit Card

carnival-credit-cardCarnival Cruises offers a credit card in association with Barclays Bank that allows you to beef up your Carnival FunPoints account balance with every card purchase. Our overview / review of the card is below:

The Carnival MasterCard is good for purchases anywhere MasterCard is accepted, and it offers Carnival FunPoints using the following formula:

  • 2 FunPoints per dollar spent on Carnival purchases including onboard purchases charged to Sail & Sign
  • 1 FunPoint per dollar on all other card purchases.

You can also get a big FunPoint bonus just for using the card for the first time — 10,000 bonus points, which is usually worth $100 when redeemed.

All these FunPoints can then be redeemed for discounts on future Carnival cruises or for completely free cruises if you rack up enough points.

Depending on your credit, the Carnival MasterCard falls into the range of most other reward credit cards when it comes to the interest rate on purchases: you get approved at a rate of either 14.99%, 19.99%, or 24.99%. No matter what rate you get, don’t carry a balance on your card or the interest charges will essentially negate the value of the FunPoints you earn.

The Carnival MasterCard makes sense for those who already have the Carnival cruise line habit, but it isn’t such a strong offer that the average person would choose it over other rewards cards. But, if you are already a Carnival VIP, it makes sense to add the card to beef up your point totals. You can apply for the Carnival MasterCard via this online application.
