Review: Capital One Quicksilver

The Capital One Quicksilver Rewards Card is a cash back credit card that gives you a 1.5% cash back rebate on all of your card purchases. This is true regardless of what you purchase, and there are no spending caps, meaning you’ll get that same 1.5% cash back rate no matter how much you spend with the card. (Some credit cards offer cash back rates that go down after you’ve spent a certain amount per year or per quarter.)

You can also earn a $100 bonus if you spend at least $500 with the card in the first three months you have it, which is a pretty do-able hurdle for most cardholders.

There is no annual fee for the Quicksilver Rewards Card, and it has an interest rate of 13.74%, 18.74%, or 23.74%, depending on your credit history. You do get a 0% rate on both purchases and balance transfers for the first 9 months after you open your account. There is a 3% fee on balance transfers, however. (For example, if you transfer a $2000 balance from another card to this one, you’ll pay a $60 fee to do so.) Capital One does not charge extra fees on purchases made outside of the United States (known as foreign transaction fees) on any of its credit cards.

Overall, we like the Capital One Quicksilver Rewards Card a lot. It is a generous reward, it’s easy to understand, and you can redeem your rewards at any time for any amount. If you check our Cash Back Credit Cards page, you’ll find that there are other cards that could give you a bit higher cash back, especially if you purchase in certain buying categories, but this is a very good everyday credit card.

NOTE: If your credit is not good enough to qualify for this card, you may be offered the QuicksilverOne Card that also offers 1.5% cash back on all your purchases but has a $39 annual fee and a 24.99% interest rate. It has no bonus opportunity.
