Review: Ann Taylor Credit Cards

Women’s clothing retailer Ann Taylor offers two credit cards in partnership with Comenity Bank that allow you to earn rewards on Ann Taylor purchases and (possibly) purchases at other stores as well. Our overview / review of the Ann Taylor cards is below:

Ann Taylor offers a Mastercard credit card that can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted, and a store-only credit card that can only be used at Ann Taylor & Loft stores. You can apply for either one, but we suggest you apply for the MasterCard & only choose the other card if you are rejected for the Mastercard. (You will likely be offered the other card anyway if turned down for the Mastercard.) As far as we are concerned, if you are going to add a new credit line, you should add one that allows you to use that credit in multiple places, not just at a single store chain.

Plus, the Ann Taylor Mastercard gives you more. Ann Taylor offers a rewards program that gives you points every time you use your Ann Taylor credit card. Both cards give you 5 points per dollar on every Ann Taylor & Loft purchase, but the Mastercard also gives you 2 points per dollar on gas and grocery purchases, and 1 reward point for every dollar charged on any other purchases outside Ann Taylor. For every 2,000 points you collect, you’ll get a $20 gift card toward a future Ann Taylor or Loft purchase.

In addition to the points program, both Ann Taylor cards offer:

  • 15% off your first Ann Taylor purchase
  • A $15 gift in your birthday month each year

The interest rate on either Ann Taylor credit card is lousy — 26.74%!!! If you EVER carry a balance on your credit cards, stop reading and forget about this card entirely. Paying roughly 25% on your purchases will more than cancel out any rewards you get. Don’t even think about it.
