Review: American Chemical Society Credit Card

acs-credit-cardThe American Chemical Society, in partnership with Bank of America, offers a credit card that allows you to earn rewards while presumably supporting the ACS. Our overview / review of the card is below:

The American Chemical Society credit card is really just the standard Bank of America Cash Rewards Visa with an ACS logo and graphic on the card’s face. Not that that’s bad, but you’re not getting any special deal here — you’re basically showing your ACS pride, and assuming that the ACS is getting some money thanks to you carrying the card. (We’re sure they are, but nowhere will you find information on what the ACS is actually paid from you having this card.)

That said, here are the rewards you receive from this no-annual-fee card:

  • 1% cash back on every purchase
  • 2% cash back on groceries & warehouse club purchases
  • 3% cash back on a category of your choice — choose between gas, online shopping, and other categories

Note that the larger cash back percentages on grocery/warehouse club purchases (2%) and your chosen 3% reward category apply to the first $2,500 in combined purchases in those categories each quarter — after that it’s 1% back on all purchases.

You’ll get a $150 bonus as a new cardholder if you spend at least $500 with this card in the first three months of having it.

Not bad. So, if you want to show your support of the American Chemical Society and get a decent cash back card in the process, you’ll find the application here.
