After mentioning my Dick’s Sporting Goods credit card in a previous article, I saw an influx of visitors searching for how to apply for such a card. So, as a public service, I will tell you that you can only apply online for a Dick’s credit card if you go to this site using your mobile device — otherwise you must visit a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in person and fill out your application there. (You can also apply inside Field & Stream stores.)
The Dick’s Mastercard is now officially called the ScoreRewards Mastercard due to added acceptance at Field & Stream and Golf Galaxy. When I got my card I was buying a treadmill and applying for the card got me a sizable discount. I applied on the spot and they managed to get me approved and get me that discount immediately. I don’t know if you will receive instant approval like I did, but I do believe they will try and will likely make it happen if you have decent credit.
Whether you need another credit card or not is up to you to decide, but if your credit score is OK, I would recommend it if you are a frequent Dick’s shopper. Why? Because it earns you extra Dick’s rewards points every time you use it. According to the Dick’s site:
Both cards automatically enroll you in the ScoreCard Gold Program and you will earn 3X points** on qualified in-store purchases the day you open an account. After that you will earn 2X points** everyday on qualified in-store purchases. With the ScoreRewards Mastercard you will also earn 1 point for every $3** spent anywhere else Mastercard is accepted.
I should also mention that the ScoreRewards / Dick’s Sporting Goods credit card is issued by Synchrony Bank (formerly GE Capital Retail Bank), and, if you scan around the Internet, you’ll see that not everyone is exactly in love with Synchrony. I hadn’t had any bad experiences with them until one debacle, though my issue did get worked out, as I detailed in the post referenced at the top of this page.
