Review: BJ’s Credit Card

bjs-mastercardBJ’s Wholesale Club, in partnership with Comenity Bank, offers 2 credit cards you can use to earn rewards toward future BJ’s purchases as well as other perks. We offer our overview & review of the BJ’s credit cards below:

The My BJ’s Perks Mastercard is accepted anywhere Mastercard credit cards are accepted, meaning you can use it just about anywhere. This is a good thing: if you are going to open a new credit line, we here at Credit Card Catalog would much prefer it be a credit line that can be used widely. Many retailers have credit cards accepted only at their chains; BJ’s credit cards are accepted almost everywhere.

The My BJ’s Perks MasterCard offers the following rewards:

  • 3% reward or 5% reward on BJ’s purchases, depending on whether you are eligible for the Perks Plus card (for BJ’s customers with the $55 “Inner Circle” store membership) or the Perks Elite version of the card (for those with the $110 BJ’s Perks Rewards membership)
  • 10 cents off per gallon at BJ’s gas stations
  • 2% reward on restaurant purchases and non-BJ’s gas purchases
  • 1% reward on all other card purchases.

Every time you reach $20 in rewards you will get a reward certificate toward future BJ’s purchases. Reward certificates can only be used inside a BJ’s club store, not online.

The interest rate on the BJ’s credit cards may be either 16.99% or 26.99% depending on your credit history. While the 16.99% rate is competitive in today’s market, the 26.99% rate is terrible — either way, don’t get this card if you have a habit of carrying balances on your credit cards, because the interest you pay will essentially cancel out the rewards you receive.

You can apply for a BJ’s Mastercard in a BJ’s store or online via this application.
