American Eagle Outfitters, sometimes shortened to AEO, offers 2 credit card options — an American Eagle store credit card and an American Eagle Visa. What’s the difference between the two? Our overview & review of the cards is below…
The American Eagle store credit card is only good for purchases at American Eagle and Aerie in-store or online. This card offers:
- 1 Extra Savings point for every $25 dollar spent with the card
- 20% off your first AEO Credit Card purchase
- 20% off birthday coupon
- Saving events specific to cardholders 4 times a year
Every month your Extra Savings point total is calculated, and, if you have more than 10 points earned, you’ll get a $10 gift card for future American Eagle purchases.
The American Eagle Visa is the same as the store card but because it is a Visa you can use it anywhere Visa is accepted, and you’ll also earn 1 Extra Savings point per $100 in charges outside American Eagle, allowing you to earn reward cards faster. The Visa card also has a slightly lower interest rate than the AEO store-only card, though both are high, at 24.24% and 25.24%, respectively — so don’t bother with this card if you ever plan on carrying a balance!
You may be wondering why you would apply for the American Eagle store card if the American Eagle offers better rewards and a lower interest rate. Well, you wouldn’t. In reality, you are applying for the American Eagle Visa. If your credit is good enough, that’s what you will get. However, if your credit history is not good enough to qualify for the Visa, you may be offered the store-only credit card instead. You can apply online for the American Eagle credit card via this application.
Both American Eagle credit cards are issued in partnership with Synchrony Bank (formerly known as GE Capital Retail Bank).
