Review: Abt Credit Card

abt-credit-cardAbt Electronics offers credit card financing through Synchrony Bank (formerly known as GE Capital Retail Bank). You can use the Abt credit card to finance a purchase at 0% interest for up to 36 months, but be careful. Our overview / review of the card’s features is below:

The Abt credit card can only be used at Abt, not at any other stores. You should be aware of its limited use before signing up. Here at Credit Card Catalog we prefer cards that can be used widely to cards such as this that are good at only a single retail chain. Opening new credit lines can hurt your credit rating (at least temporarily), especially if you don’t have a very good credit history to begin with.

However, if you are making a significant purchase at Abt, you might appreciate these financing offers:

  • You pay no interest if you pay your balance in full within 12 months on purchases made with the card.
  • You pay no interest if you pay your balance in full within 24 months on certain large purchases such as furniture, mattresses, certain TV models.
  • You pay no interest if you pay your balance in full within 36 months on select Sony 4K HDTVs

The important thing to note on most of these offers (other than the Sony 36-month offer) is that you MUST pay off your complete purchase before the offer period runs out. Otherwise, you will get charged all of the interest that would have accrued from the day you made your purchase — just as if you had never had the 0% offer at all. And, even worse, you will get charged at a 29.99% interest rate, which is about as bad an interest rate as you will find anywhere on any purchase these days.

If you are aware of the dangers and want to apply anyway, the Abt online credit card application is here.
