Review: Gander Mountain Credit Card

gander-mountain-credit-cardGander Mountain outdoor stores, in partnership with Comenity Bank, offers 2 credit cards that allow you to earn points toward future Gander Mountain purchases. Our overview / review of the cards is below:

The Gander Mountain MasterCard is the more desirable of the two Gander Mountain credit cards, as it can be used at Gander Mountain and anywhere else MasterCard is accepted. There is also a Gander Mountain store card that can only be used at Gander Mountain, and offers fewer rewards. We could not find information as to how and why someone would get this second card — it might only be offered to those whose credit is not good enough to qualify for the MasterCard.

The Gander Mountain MasterCard offers the following points formula:

  • 3 points per dollar on purchases at Gander Mountain and their sister store Overton’s (You can earn 5 points on these purchases if you buy over $10,000 with the card in a year.)
  • 2 points per dollar on gas and grocery purchases’
  • 1 point per dollar on all other purchases.

Every time you reach 2,000 points, you get a $20 Reward Certificate to use toward future Gander Mountain purchases.

The Gander Mountain Store Card, on the other hand, only offers 2 points per dollar on Gander Mountain purchases. Since it can not be used elsewhere, it does not offer points any other way.

Gander Mountain credit cards have no fee, and the interest rate on the Gander Mountain MasterCard could be 16.99%, 20.99%, or 24.99%, depending on your credit history. The 16.99% rate is not terrible, but the 20+% rates are terrible, so if you get approved at a high rate, be sure you never carry a balance on this card. The interest paid will cancel out any rewards you receive.

You can apply for the Gander Mountain MasterCard via this online application.
