After recently mentioning my Dick’s Sporting Goods credit card, I saw an influx of visitors searching for how to apply for such a card. So, as a public service, I will tell you that you can not apply for a Dick’s credit card online — you must visit a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in person and fill out your application there.
When I got my Dick’s MasterCard I was buying a treadmill and applying for the card got me a sizable discount. I applied on the spot and they managed to get me approved and get me that discount immediately. I don’t know if you will receive instant approval like I did, but I do believe they will try and will likely make it happen if you have decent credit.
Whether you need another credit card or not is up to you to decide, but if your credit score is OK, I would recommend it if you are a frequent Dick’s shopper. Why? Because it earns you extra Dick’s rewards points every time you use it. According to the Dick’s site:
Both cards automatically enroll you in the ScoreCard Program, entitle you to exclusive bonus point offers and give you 1 extra ScoreCard point for every $1 in merchandise you purchase in-store at any DICK’S Sporting Goods store. With the DICK’S Sporting Goods MasterCard, you score 1 point for every $3 you spend outside of a DICK’S Sporting Goods store anywhere else MasterCard is accepted.
I should also mention that the Dick’s Sporting Goods credit card is issued by Synchrony Bank (formerly GE Capital Retail Bank), and, if you scan around the Internet, you’ll see that not everyone is exactly in love with Synchrony / GE Capital. I hadn’t had any bad experiences with them until one debacle, though my issue did get worked out, as I detailed in the post referenced at the top of this page.
